MATT HUGHEY (Owner/Coach)
Certifications– Power Athlete Block One Coach, Crossfit Level 1 and 2, Crossfit Olympic Lifting, Crossfit Movement and Mobility, First Aid/AED/CPR

Education– Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Middle Tennessee State University 

Background– “I was first introduced to Crossfit in 2008 by a friend and after my first few workouts and doing some research into the Crossfit program, I was convinced that it was the best all around strength and conditioning program out there.  I got my Level 1 certification in 2009 and began coaching part time at Crossfit Murfreesboro.  I have competed in numerous local, regional, and national Crossfit competitions including being a member of the Crossfit Murfreesboro Affiliate team that finished 3rd in the 2011 Central East Regional and 24th in the world at the 2011 Crossfit Games.  After seeing the physical gains that Crossfit made in my own life and experiencing the fun and encouraging community, I knew that I wanted to become a full time coach and work with others to achieve their own fitness goals.  My wife Ashley, and I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to open Crossfit VTG and we are committed to providing the best quality coaching, facility, and community possible for every client.”- Matt Hughey




ASHLEY HUGHEY (Owner/Coach)
Certifications– Crossfit Level 1, First Aid/AED/CPR

Education– Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Elementary Education) from Middle Tennessee State University

Background– “I played city league and co-ed softball for over 12 years and ran track in High School.  Before Crossfit, I did not like to workout.  I just did it because I knew that I needed to in order to stay healthy, but I was miserable every step of the way.  I was first introduced to Crossfit in 2008 by my husband, Matt, and that was the first time I actually had fun during exercise.  Since the workouts are always different, it keeps them fun and interesting for me.  Through Crossfit I have also met many people who encourage me daily and have become some of the best friends I have ever had.  I have competed in several local, regional, and national Crossfit competitions including being a member of the Crossfit Murfreesboro Affiliate team that competed in Carson, California at the 2011 Crossfit Games.  Matt and I are very excited to have the opportunity to share our love of health and fitness with others through Crossfit VTG!” – Ashley Hughey


KYLE MOONEYHAM (Coach)
Certifications– Crossfit Level 1, First Aid/AED/CPR

Education– Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering Technology from Middle Tennessee State University

Background– “I am 28 years old and have been doing Crossfit for 7 years.  My athletic background includes numerous high school sports and 1 year on the Georgia Tech football  team.  After an early retirement in my football career, I transferred to MTSU and spent most of my time in the rec center “pumping iron” and doing abs.  After I was introduced to Crossfit and completed my first workout, I haven’t looked back and enjoy every moment I get to spend in this amazing Crossfit community.  I have competed in numerous Crossfit competitions.  I was an individual competitor at the 2009 Dirty South Regionals, 2009 Faction Games and other local competitions.  I was also a member of the Crossfit Murfreesboro team that competed in the 2011 Crossfit Games and the 2012 Central East Regionals.  I enjoy every day that I have the oppportunity to learn and become a better Crossfitter, and I hope that I can pass some of my knowledge on to each and every person that steps foot into Crossfit VTG.”- Kyle “The LGA” Mooneyham


KATY FOOTITT (Coach)

Education– Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine at Middle Tennessee State University

Background– “I am 26 years old and have participated in sports my entire life. I played many sports growing up, some organized and some with the neighborhood kids. I played softball and volleyball in high school and was able to continue playing softball in college. After my collegiate career I tried many different fitness programs and did not like any of them. I stumbled upon CrossFit by chance and I was immediately hooked. I fell in love with the competitiveness that it created in my life that I missed after collegiate athletics. My favorite aspect of CrossFit by far is the fact that everyone, in any stage of life, can do CrossFit and better themselves because of it. I love helping people reach their goals within CrossFit and in life!” – Katy Footitt


BROOKE MAYO (Coach)

Education– B.S. in Exercise Science from Tennessee Tech University, M.S. in Health and Human Performance from Middle Tennessee State University

Background– “I grew up in Garland, TX where I became addicted to soccer. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to play D1 soccer at TTU all four years. I’ve also been a soccer referee since the age of 13. I’ve been able to travel the U.S. and referee games. It is my dream to become a professional referee. After college, I didn’t have a coach telling me to exercise, so I didn’t. I failed my college referee fitness test in 2011. I signed up for Crossfit the next day and haven’t looked back! Crossfit has provided me a healthy community of friends and I’ve haven’t failed a fitness test since signing up. I also work at Stewarts Creek high school where I teach wellness, weightlifting and coach the men’s varsity soccer team. I love helping anyone and everyone on their journey to better health!” – Brooke Mayo


KATIE ROSENHAGEN (Coach)
Certifications– CrossFit level 1, BLS/CPR/AED certified

Education– Bachelor of Science in Human and Organizational Development, Vanderbilt University. Master of Science in Nursing, Women’s Health, Vanderbilt University.

Background– “My first exposure to CrossFit was through a free Saturday class at CrossFit VTG back in January 2013. I was trying to convince my husband that he needed to do CrossFit, so I went with him to the class so that he would go and try it. Well, needless to say I was hooked! I was running regularly at the time, so my original plan was to do CrossFit to make me a better and stronger runner for a marathon I was training for in December 2013. I soon found that while I liked running, I loved CrossFit even more. I feel that CF has empowered me so much, both physically and mentally. What I gain at the gym carries over into so many aspects of my life and my career. It pushes me to be better and try harder, and I hope to set this example for my children, my patients at work, and members at VTG!” – Katie Rosenhagen
